Alfonso Lopez de Carrizosa
The Carrizosa family was the second family to establish themselves in Jerez de la Frontera in the 12th centrury. After intense battles they gained control of what is still today one of the biggest properties in the area. The family has been important to the horse breeding of Jerez, in fact it was at the Carrizosa estate the first breeding of the Andalucian horse was conducted.
Alfonso Lopez de Carrizosa started riding when he was three years old and has never left the saddle. As a young boy he competed in Doma Vaquera competitons and with such skill that he was mentored by the world champion for years to come. Soon he won national competitions and became a highly regarded rejoneador, the name given to a matador who fights the bull from horseback.
Today he works as a trainer for a selected clientele at his private stables six miles outside of Jerez. Alfonso trains and breeds all his horses himself, and prides himself in offering some of the best riding possibilities in Spain. Some clients are even allowed a private tour of the world's first bullfighter ring dating back to 1979, which is located on the unique property.
